Churchyard

A small team of dedicated gardeners have recently developed a series of gardens to enhance the beauty of the churchyard. There are several distinct areas of planting which include a conservation area planted with a variety of wild flowers and bulbs. St John's is delighted to play its part in the Menston in Bloom project which enhances the village.
There are special times of year when the churchyard is at its most striking eg carpets of snowdrops make for a magical experience in late January / February; and March and May when woodland plants and bulbs are colourful. A successful Open Gardens afternoon was held in May 2011 when a good number of visitors came to view the colourful gardens, listen to the Chevin Handbell ringers and organ recitals in church and purchase refreshments and plants. A second open afternoon is planned for Saturday 21 April 2012 ~ 2-4.30pm
Are you green fingered or young and energetic? If so, the churchyard maintenance team would be delighted to hear from you. Help is needed to cut the grass, rake up leaves in autumn, weed borders, care for the conservation area. Contact via the Parish Office.
