Outreach

We endeavour to reach out beyond the parish boundaries to remind us that we are part of the world-wide Church. We actively support the work and campaigns of Christian Aid, USPG, Fairtrade and the Tiyanjane Clinic in Malawi.

An important local commitment is our support for the Otley Deanery Youth and Children's Network
a group of 11 parishes and 16 churches seeking to work together to celebrate, encourage, affirm and support one another in their work with children and young people.

St John's has a small, dedicated of amateur thespians who regularly go into the Primary School to tell Bible stories using props and visuals from Open the Book

Our Harvest and Christmas giving in 2011 focussed on the work of the inter-denominational INN Churches project in Bradford. Inn Churches is a unique project aimed at offering shelter, food and companionship to homeless people in Bradford during December, January and February, the coldest time of the year. Emergency accommodation is provided, seven nights a week, in participating city centre churches staffed by over a 100 volunteers. Watch this YouTube video for a moving account of their activities.

Three times a year we donate the profit from Sunday morning coffee to a wide variety of charities with either an overseas, local or UK focus. Recent recipients have been the Oxenhope Sue Ryder Hospice, and Potter's Village for destitute children in Uganda.
