Congratulations on your forthcoming wedding, and thank you for considering St John's church as the venue. We hope that you will find answers to many of the questions you may have on this and the linked page.
The rules regarding whether you can get married in any particular church were changed in October 2008. It is now possible to get married at St John's if one of you:
-
has at any time lived in the parish (see boundary map) for a period of at least 6 months or
-
was baptised at St John's or
-
was prepared for confirmation in the parish or
-
has at any time regularly gone to normal church services in St John's church for a period of at least 6 months
Or one of your parents, at any time after you were born:
-
has lived in the parish for a period of at least 6 months or
-
has regularly gone to normal church services in St John's for a period of at least 6 months
Or one of your parents or grandparents was married in St John's.
If you wish to get married in St John's your first step is to contact the vicar.

Divorce
The Church of England teaches that marriage is for life. It also recognises that sadly some marriages do fail and if this should happen it seeks to be available for all involved. The Church accepts that it is possible in some circumstances for a divorce person to marry again in church during the lifetime of a former spouse. Before you set the date please contact the vicar for a discussion as to whether a marriage in church is possible.
How much will it cost?
There are some mandatory fees set by the Church of England which cover the costs of the wedding, legal aspects and the marriage certificate, etc. Fees change from year to year, but those for 2012 are shown below. Cheques should be made payable to 'Menston PCC'.
